The candidate must have a British Columbia Certificate of Qualification. Note that to obtain this certificate and teach in French, the candidate must demonstrate proficiency in French and may have to take a language proficiency test.

Any candidate wishing to teach in the province must have Alberta Teacher Certification. Note that, to teach French, proof of language proficiency will be required by means of a recorded interview of at least 20 minutes of French conversation.

The Saskatchewan Teacher’s Certificate is a prerequisite for teaching in Saskatchewan. The Saskatchewan Professional Teachers Regulatory Board (SPTRB) is responsible for issuing this certificate.
The province has introduced an Additional Qualification Certificate program to encourage teachers to obtain additional training in fields where there is a shortage of teachers. French immersion is one of these fields. Thus, it is possible for candidates with generalist teaching training to do upgrading training at one of Saskatchewan’s participating universities.

Candidates wishing to be employed as professional school personnel in Manitoba must hold a valid Manitoba Teaching or School Clinician Certificate. Proficiency in French is also required to teach in this language.

To teach in a publicly funded school in Ontario, you must hold a Certificate of Qualification and Registration issued by the Ontario College of Teachers (OCT), and therefore be an OCT member in good standing.
To teach French as a second language, candidates must hold the necessary qualifications or their school board must obtain a temporary letter of approval from the Ministry of Education. However, OCT members can obtain the necessary qualifications to teach in another language by adding additional qualifications to their certificate.

Credential (diploma and/or certification) recognition process:
To practise the profession of teacher, the candidate must hold a Québec Teaching Licence. Four types of teaching licences may be granted, according to the candidate’s situation.
To obtain a teaching licence in French as a second language, the candidate must have completed 45 units in a second language (French) and 90 units in education as part of his or her training.
Credential (diploma and/or certification) recognition process:
The candidate must have a valid New Brunswick Teacher’s Certificate and demonstrate, at a minimum, oral proficiency at the Advanced Plus (B2-1) level for French Intensive positions, and at the Superior (C1) level for French immersion positions, based on the New Brunswick French oral language proficiency evaluation.

The candidate must hold a Nova Scotia Teacher’s Certificate. In the event that a qualified person does not meet the certificate requirements, a Conditional Initial Teacher’s Certificate may be granted. The candidate must also have proficiency in French and English to teach French as a second language.

Any candidate wishing to teach in the province must have a Prince Edward Island Teacher’s Certificate.
Note that proof of language proficiency may be required. To teach in French immersion, the candidate must have attained the superior level in the New Brunswick French oral language proficiency evaluation.

Any teacher employed in the province’s primary/elementary/secondary schools is required by law to hold a valid Newfoundland and Labrador Teaching Certificate.
Note that some school boards may require proof of French language proficiency, such as successful completion of the DELF exam (level D2) to obtain a French teaching position.

Anyone wishing to teach in the territory must hold a Yukon Teacher Certificate. Note that a language proficiency evaluation may be required to teach French.

International candidates:
Note that the Government of Yukon requires that the candidate have a teacher’s licence or other form of official recognition issued by another Canadian administrative region in order to be eligible to obtain the Yukon Teacher Certificate.
The candidate must have Northwest Territories Teacher Certification. The candidate must first find a position in the Northwest Territories before applying for certification.
The candidate must have a Nunavut Teaching Certificate. For admission conditions and the registration application form, contact the Nunavut Department of Education.
