Successful applicants will have the opportunity to work in short term and long term assignments, and will be placed into permanent positions as they become available.
PLEASE NOTE: Teachers who have been approved for the French teacher pool hire in previous years but have not yet attained a permanent teaching position with RCDSB must reapply in order to be considered for this year’s pool hiring.
Qualifications and requirements
- Member in good standing with the Ontario College of Teachers
- FSL Part 1 qualifications required
- Knowledge of the ‘Diplôme d’études en langue française’ (DELF) is considered an asset

- Knowledge of the actional approach (approche actionnelle) to second language teaching
- Knowledge and ability to successfully teach the Ontario Curriculum in a variety of subjects
- Knowledge and understanding of a variety of assessment strategies
- Excellent interpersonal skills
The following is an overview of the interview and selection process:
French Language Assessment (FLA):
Candidates with the required qualifications will be provided with an access code to complete the EV@LANG self-assessment . This online diagnostic tool will assess: oral comprehension, written comprehension, grammar and vocabulary. It is the responsibility of the candidate to forward the certificate of completion (results are available immediately upon completion of the EV@LANG assessment) in order to be considered for the interview stage of the hiring process.
Interview & Exercise/Assignment:
Based on the results of the FLA, candidates may be extended a panel interview with RCDSB Administrators.

Applications should consist of a cover letter, resume and a copy of your Ontario College of Teachers’ Certificate (if certificate is pending, please indicate).
If selected for an interview, applicants will be required to provide three (3) professional, supervisory teaching references (including full name, position title, work location/organization, and email address). Experienced teachers will also be required to provide two (2) teaching evaluations including your most recent evaluation(s) and new graduates will be required to provide any summative practice teaching reports.
