Purpose and Accountability
This is a call for external existing Principals and Assistant Principals who are interested in School Leadership Principal opportunities with the Calgary Board of Education.
Particular attention will be given to individuals with experience in the following areas:
- Special Education

Reporting to the Education Director, the Principal accepts primary responsibility for providing leadership in the school. This position is accountable to the Chief Superintendent through the Superintendents, School Improvement. The Principal is accountable for optimizing student learning while meeting the obligations and responsibilities of the Education Act and all other appropriate statutes, in addition to policies, regulations, and procedures of the Board.
This position is accountable for:
- providing leadership to successfully implement the strategies in our Three-Year Education Plan;
- attending to the organization of human and material resources in the school;
- performing the management functions in the school;
- serving as the representative of the Chief Superintendent in the school;
- ensuring compliance with corporate safety regulations and procedures, CBE collective agreements, and other applicable legal documents; and
- ensuring compliance with Board Governance policies as directed by the Chief Superintendent.

Qualifications and requirements
Qualifications
- a valid Alberta Professional Teaching Certificate
- the completion of a Masters Degree in a related discipline from an accredited institution
- the completion or eligible to complete the Leadership Quality Standard Certification
- preference is a minimum of three years of successful experience as a school principal
- minimum requirements of seven years teaching experience and five years combined administration experiences as an Assistant Principal and/or Principal
- the Board reserves the right to appoint individuals with equivalent credentials to those stated
