The official start of the 2024 NFL season will have to wait at least 20 minutes later than originally scheduled.

Thursday’s season opener between the Baltimore Ravens and Kansas City Chiefs has been delayed until 8:40 p.m. ET due to inclement weather in the area, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

About an hour before the originally scheduled start time, ESPN’s Jamison Hensley posted a video on X detailing how hard it was raining at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.

Shortly after the heavy downpours, the weather began to improve, meaning the 20-minute delay could be the only one of the night.

Thursday’s game will be a rematch of the AFC Championship game, where the Chiefs beat the Ravens 17-10 to advance to the Super Bowl, and eventually beat the San Francisco 49ers to win a second straight Super Bowl.

While Kansas City ultimately prevailed over Baltimore last year, the Ravens have revamped this offseason and added a key addition: star running back Derrick Henry. The former Tennessee Titan will make his debut on Thursday.

As was the case last season, both the Chiefs and Ravens are expected to be two of the best teams in the AFC, making Thursday’s season opener an exciting start to the NFL season.
