Marquette dermatologist Dr. Soderberg celebrates 55 years of skin care experience

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – A Marquette County dermatologist is celebrating a career spanning more than half a century.

“Use it, wear it out? Make it work and get rid of it.”

That’s the motto Dr. Milton Soderberg has followed since he opened his practice after Labor Day in 1969.

Dr. Soderberg is celebrating 55 years as a dermatologist at Forefront Dermatology in Marquette.

He says he was the only dermatologist in Upper Michigan for 10 years.

Dr. Soderberg says watching medicine advance over the years has been an incredible experience.

“When I first started working there, we only had methotrexate and light,” Dr. Soderberg said. “Now, we have oral medications and injections that work wonders for psoriasis. Another large group of people I see have had dermatitis or age-related eczema their whole life and we have injections that help control that as well, so that’s been very helpful.”

Dr. Soderberg says what he likes most about his job is working with and helping people in the community.

“It’s very gratifying to realize that you’re helping people with problems that they have and some of them are very chronic,” Dr. Soderberg said.

She says it’s been satisfying to see how accessible it has become to book an appointment with a dermatologist.

“I saw unusual things and I still see common things, but we have more dermatologists in Northern Michigan these days,” Dr. Soderberg said. “So you don’t have to wait two or three months to get seen and that’s very appropriate, too.”

Aides of Rapid River native say he is the most dedicated doctor in UP

Dr. Soderberg attributes much of his success to his team.

He says he doesn’t plan on retiring anytime soon because this is what he loves.
