2 arrested for fentanyl trafficking

AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Two people have been arrested for drug trafficking on state and federal charges, according to the Amarillo Police Department.

According to a press release, members of the Proactive Penal Enforcement Unit (PACE) began conducting a joint operation with the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) in June 2024.

The purpose of the operation was to investigate the drug trafficking activities of two individuals who were reportedly obtaining fentanyl from locations outside of Texas and transporting it back to Amarillo for distribution.

On July 3, PACE Unit members received information that the two suspects were traveling to Amarillo from Oklahoma City.

Officers conducted a traffic stop on his car when they arrived in Amarillo.

During a search of his vehicle, officers found approximately 22 grams of fentanyl powder in a counterfeit Sprite can.

Officers learned the suspects bring between 2,000 and 3,000 fentanyl pills into Amarillo from Oklahoma City and Albuquerque at a time.

Both suspects were released pending further investigation.

The information was presented to a grand jury, which issued indictments and arrest warrants for both suspects, who were charged with conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute.

On September 1, Jacob Newby, 32, and Lilith Paparo-Prieto, 29, were arrested and booked into the Randall County Jail.
