Suspect in fatal hit-and-run of 7-year-old Cleveland girl to appear in court

CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The man arrested for the hit-and-run that killed 7-year-old Amir Maclin will be arraigned Friday morning.

Cleveland police and U.S. Marshals arrested Donald Mynatt, 32, on Wednesday and charged him with failure to stop after a crash causing death.

According to police, around 7:20 p.m. on Aug. 16, Amir was riding his skateboard in the parking lot of 16024 Lakeshore Blvd. when he was struck by a large SUV.

The child was dragged under the vehicle and the driver continued out of the parking lot and fled the scene.

Amir was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.

“The loss of Amir has impacted our community and the Police Division. Our teams have worked tirelessly investigating and following up on all leads to bring closure to Amir’s family. We ask the community to keep his family in their prayers,” said Cleveland Police Chief Dorothy Todd.

A felony arrest warrant was issued for Mynatt on August 28.
