Former IU TE protects Mahomes and pushes Roquan Smith

Former Tri-West High School and IU tight end Peyton Hendershot caught the eye of Baltimore Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith in Thursday’s game.

After Smith made contact with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes out of bounds early in the fourth quarter, Hendershot, who was not in uniform, approached Smith and shoved him. There was more pushing, shoving and yelling before order was restored.

After the match, Smith said: “Whoever 88 is, I don’t know who he is, but he better watch out… I’ll see him when I see him.”

The Dallas Cowboys traded Hendershot to the Chiefs on trade day. Protecting Mahomes is certainly a good way to gain a little more job security.

Who is Peyton Hendershot?

Hendershot went undrafted out of IU in 2022 and signed with the Cowboys. In 25 games, he caught 15 passes for 141 yards and two touchdowns. Hendershot played four seasons for Indiana and had 136 receptions for 1,479 yards and 14 touchdowns.

He caught 157 passes for 2,170 yards and 22 touchdowns at Tri-West, winning the 2014 Class 3A state title.
