SALISBURY — Lutheran Services Carolinas (LSC), a Salisbury-based nonprofit serving more than 10,000 North and South Carolinians, has awarded scholarships totaling $65,966 to 20 of its teammates for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Through four different fellowship programs, 12 team members will earn nursing degrees, five will pursue master’s degrees, and three will work toward other professional degrees. The programs are designed to help talented team members advance within the organization while improving service delivery.

“LSC is committed to lifelong learning and growth,” said Ted W. Goins, Jr., LSC President and CEO. “We are thrilled that our 20 fellow scholarship recipients are growing to better themselves and our organization.”

LSC operates 11 senior living communities in North Carolina and seven refugee resettlement offices in North Carolina and South Carolina, as well as adult day programs and group homes, foster care and adoption services, mental health and recovery services, and disaster response services.

Grady Scholarship
Established through a bequest from the late E.B. Grady Jr., this scholarship supports the professional advancement of teammates at the Trinity Oaks campus in Salisbury.

This year’s Grady Scholarship recipient is Billie Marie Logsdon, a certified nursing assistant at Trinity Oaks Health and Rehab. Logsdon is studying to become a licensed practical nurse.

Hollar Scholarships

This scholarship helps LSC direct care team members obtain an education that increases their ability to care for LSC clients. It was established by Bryce Hollar in memory of his wife, Margie Hefner Hollar, and in honor of his caregivers at Lutheran Home – Hickory (now Trinity Village).

Nine LSC teammates received Hollar scholarships this year.

Recipients in North Carolina include Angela Blanton of Trinity Grove (Wilmington); Tracy Davis of Trinity Glen (Winston-Salem); Jasmine Lindsey of LSC’s Assertive Community Treatment Team (Chapel Hill); Daniel Thompson of LSC’s New Americans Program in Asheville; Jay Hoke and Jessica Mangum of Trinity Village (Hickory); and Liz Warner of Trinity Ridge (also in Hickory).

South Carolina recipients include Denesha Jarrett-Mitchell of LSC’s Myrtle Beach New Americans Program and Carlos Rondon Leon of LSC’s Transitional Foster Care for Unaccompanied Children (Columbia) program.

LSC Scholarships

The LSC scholarship supports qualified teammates whose studies will enhance their ability to grow with LSC. This year’s recipients include two Trinity Ridge teammates: administrator Hannah Huffman, who is pursuing a master’s degree in health administration, and chef Casspian Beach, who is studying culinary arts. Also receiving LSC scholarships are teammate services specialist Cora Ingle, who is studying organizational communications, and Fatma Mohamed from LSC’s New Americans program in Raleigh, who is working toward a paralegal certificate.

Nursing scholarships

The LSC Nursing Enrollment Program is open to any team member from any department of a nursing or assisted living facility who wishes to pursue a community college degree in nursing. There is no seniority requirement at LSC, and team members who work at other LSC locations or programs may transfer to a senior care facility in order to apply.

Current LSC Nursing Scholarship recipients include Crystal Chamberlain of Trinity Ridge; Gloria Evans of Aston Park (Asheville); Jane Fowler of Trinity Grove; Tilder Jane Hunt of GlenFlora (Lumberton); Sadie Jarvis of Trinity Village; and JaPrella Lee of Trinity Elms Health and Rehab (Clemmons).
