Despite not having a contract extension and the regular season approaching, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott feels good that he and his team will eventually come to terms on a new deal.

“There are good conversations going on, I’ll admit that,” Prescott said, according to The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “… There’s a lot of confidence (that something will get done).”

Prescott is set to enter the final year of his four-year, $160 million contract and will make $29 million this season.

Dallas appears to want to get Prescott an extension soon, as Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Wednesday that he expects a new deal to “be done before the start of this season,” according to Yahoo Sports’ Jori Epstein.

At this point, though, it’s unclear how realistic Jones’ goal is. The Athletic’s Jeff Howe reported last week that “it doesn’t appear the Cowboys and Prescott are close to an extension,” so the next few weeks would need to see plenty of progress for Prescott to enter the 2024 season with a new contract.

The 31-year-old is coming off an MVP-caliber season in which he threw for an NFL-best 4,516 yards and 36 touchdowns.

Given another standout season from Prescott and the rising price of quarterbacks, it wouldn’t be a surprise if the Cowboys made him one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league to keep him.
