The Golden State Warriors and general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. feel a general urgency to win under star Stephen Curry, but they don’t get pressure directly from the player, according to The Athletic’s Anthony Slater.

“The Warriors’ key stakeholders understand Curry’s sustained greatness and, team sources said, there is an internal understanding that their current supporting cast cannot be considered a finished product if a 2025 NBA championship is believed to be an attainable goal,” Slater reported Thursday.

“Curry was involved in the signing of (Paul) George. Dunleavy is keeping him informed of options and final personnel decisions. According to team sources, Curry has not shown any signs of panic or concern. But there is the option of whether or not to act in the coming months that will give a clearer clue as to his long-term mindset.”

Curry averaged 26.4 points and 5.1 assists on 40.8 percent 3-point shooting in 2023-24, and the 2024 Summer Olympics were a reminder of how much he can impact a game. His 24-point performance in the gold medal win over France ensured he will be the most iconic player in Team USA’s triumph this year.

The two-time MVP may be past his prime, but there’s hope he’ll still be good enough to win another title with Golden State.

For that reason, some fans might feel a little disappointed with how the offseason has played out so far.

George signed with the Philadelphia 76ers, while Golden State balked at the price the Utah Jazz asked for Markkanen before signing an extension that rules out any trade until next summer at the earliest.

It’s hard to deny that the Warriors would have been championship favorites if they had landed George or Markkanen. They were a team that only made the playoffs last year and failed to make the playoffs. However, they would have at least been improved with either player, and an acquisition of that magnitude would have sent a clear message.

Overall, it’s hard to imagine Curry in any other uniform. He’s entering his 16th season in the Bay Area.

However, considering he’s eligible for free agency in 2026, his future will become an even bigger story if Golden State fails to make any significant improvements on the court.
