IU School of Medicine expands program in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WFIE) – Indiana University School of Medicine is expanding its program at its Evansville campus.

Leaders say they hope to help with the growing shortage of medical laboratory scientists.

According to IU, four students are enrolled in the new Bachelor of Science degree offering, which begins this month.

University officials say medical laboratory scientists play a critical role in conducting tests that inform patient diagnosis and treatment.

They say the increase in need for laboratory scientists is nearly double the national average for all jobs.

They hope to increase enrollment to 24 students in the coming years.
