Indiana Farm Bureau’s second vice president says Taste from Indiana Farms is a way to connect directly with consumers.

Janis Highley says fair-goers are getting to sample some of the state’s top-growing crops.

“It can be a product that is in the food they eat every day,” she says. “I love seeing consumers’ eyes light up when they realize that not only does it come from Indiana, but it’s what’s in that product that makes it look or taste that way.”

She tells Brownfield that there is something about farming that can resonate with anyone.

“It doesn’t matter if you live in rural Indiana or in the heart of Marion County in downtown Indianapolis,” she says. “We’re here to educate and advocate for farmers in rural America.”

Notable Indiana crops include corn, eggs, lamb, tomatoes, mint, dairy products, maple syrup, and popcorn.
The Indiana State Fair runs through August 18.
