New Bedford woman strikes it rich after winning $1 million jackpot from scratch-off ticket

Donna Balut of New Bedford won $1 million in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s $2,000,000 50X Cashword $10 instant ticket game.

Balut opted to receive his prize in the form of a one-time payment of $650,000 before taxes.

He said he plans to put his winnings toward paying off his house.

She purchased her winning ticket at Belleville Discount Gas, 535 Belleville Ave. in New Bedford. The store receives a $10,000 bonus for the sale of this ticket.

The win comes days after Robert J. Ostrye Jr. of New Bedford won $4 million in the Massachusetts State Lottery’s “$4,000,000 Monopoly Doubler” game.
