A rare cold front is heading toward Central Florida. Here’s what to expect

ORLANDO, Florida. – A little taste of “Florida fall” is coming to the area Thursday as a rare cold front ushers in a much drier forecast for the weekend.

THURSDAY:

A weak cold front will move south during the day, keeping the weather humid and unstable.

This configuration is expected to produce a 50 to 60 percent chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms, with the greatest coverage south of Orlando and toward the coast.

Unusual summer cold front

While it will remain humid, a more northerly shift in our wind pattern should keep temperatures closer to normal, in the 80s and 90s, with heat indices between 100 and 103 degrees.

FRIDAY-SUNDAY:

A much-welcomed break from the summer heat and humidity begins when a plume of dry air moves in. Lower humidity values will make conditions feel very comfortable with highs below average, near 90 degrees.

Temperature trend this week

Pleasant weather will continue through the afternoon and evening, with lows ranging from 70 to 75 degrees.

Some neighborhoods further inland could even see temperatures below 70 degrees on Friday and Saturday night!

Saturday morning temperatures

TROPICAL ZONE:

In addition to the best weekend weather of the summer season, the cold front is also keeping Hurricane Ernesto more than 700 miles off the coast of Florida. It is forecast to strengthen into a major hurricane over the weekend as it approaches the island of Bermuda.

Dangers in navigation and on the beach

As it moves northward, Ernesto will produce extended-period swells that will result in strong surf and a high risk of rip currents along East Coast beaches on Friday and Saturday.

A small craft advisory remains in effect for mariners as seas will remain rough.
