Smoke from wildfires in Canada is damaging air quality in Massachusetts, officials say

Smoke from Canadian wildfires is negatively affecting air quality in Massachusetts, although the state Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) has not yet issued an air quality alert, the department said Tuesday.

While ozone levels statewide are still within a safe range, wildfire smoke has introduced more fine particulate matter (PM2.5) into our air, MassDEP said in a statement. As a result, levels of this pollutant have increased to the “moderate” range in most Massachusetts communities.
