Indiana recruiting target Malachi Moreno to choose college Friday

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Malachi Moreno, one of the most sought-after centers in the Class of 2025, is on the cusp of making his college decision.

Moreno, a 7-foot-11 player, will announce his commitment at 11 a.m. Friday at Great Crossing High School. On3.com’s Joe Tipton was first to report the news.

Indiana is one of eight finalists Moreno has listed in his social media posts. The Hoosiers are competing for Moreno with Arkansas, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

Moreno, a native of Georgetown, Kentucky, which is just outside Lexington, averaged 16 points, 13.3 rebounds and 3.7 blocks for Great Crossing (36-2). The Warhawks reached the KHSAA Sweet 16 Final Four in 2024.

There has been much speculation that Moreno will choose his hometown of Kentucky.

Moreno was scheduled to make an official visit to Indiana on Sept. 20, but his college decision could make that visit unnecessary.

Indiana has long been interested in Moreno. He was offered a scholarship in October 2022 and visited Bloomington in September 2023.

According to 247 Sports, Moreno is the No. 26 recruit in the nation based on a ranking from several different recruiting services. The four-star standout is considered the second-highest ranked center nationally and the top player in the Class of 2025 from the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Other centers Indiana has sought out from the class of 2025 include 6-foot-10 German Eric Reibe, who attends high school in Potomac, Maryland, and Chris Cenac Jr., a 6-foot-8 big man from New Orleans.

Moreno is an AAU teammate of Indiana targets Braylon Mullins and Trent Sisley on the Indiana Elite team on the Adidas 3SSB circuit. Mullins and Sisley are scheduled to visit Indiana on Sept. 20.
