DMV opens one-stop shop in Melrose Park with expanded business services

A west suburban DMV has been remodeled into a one-stop shop designed to reduce wait times and get more done in one visit to the counter, according to the Illinois Secretary of State’s office.

The newly renovated DMV+ facility, opening Thursday in Melrose Park, combines services for drivers and vehicles, and also offers business services that previously required a trip to downtown Chicago or Springfield.

That means no more hopping between lines at different DMV stations at 1903 N. Mannheim Road, Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias said.

“The goal is to get more people in and out faster,” Giannoulias said. “We believe this is the new model that will be applied in the future. We are reinventing the way we do business in every single department.”

The business, indexing and personnel services now available in Melrose Park are the first to be offered outside of Chicago or the state capital. Individuals can receive certified copies of business records, file applications for limited liability companies (LLCs), register trademarks and more. Some of those tasks previously required multiple stops between different state offices.

The Melrose Park site will also process and certify foreign-use documents, provide notary public assistance, and conduct employment testing for current and future DMV employees.

Since April, four more DMV offices in the southern part of the state have become one-stop shops for driver and vehicle services. The Melrose Park branch is the first near Chicago.

In one visit, residents can renew a state license or ID, apply for a REAL ID, register or renew vehicle decals, order new license plates, register to vote, become an organ donor and more.

The optimized configuration allows for more fueling stations and appointments, which are required for driver services and can be scheduled at ilsos.gov.
