Diamondbacks extend winning streak to 6, beating Rockies 11-4; Suarez hits grand slam

PHOENIX (AP) — Eugenio Suarez hit a grand slam and finished with five RBIs, Joc Pederson drove in two early and the Arizona Diamondbacks won their sixth straight game, beating the Colorado Rockies 11-4 on Wednesday.

Arizona swept the three-game series and has won 18 of 21, moving into the playoff race with its longest winning streak since August of last year. After a 6-1 record on a homestand, the NL champions head to Tampa Bay, Miami and Boston for a nine-game road trip.

Suarez had three hits and connected on the first pitch he saw from Riley Pint into the seats in left-center field. He gave the Diamondbacks a 10-3 lead in the sixth with his fourth grand slam.

Arizona jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, thanks in part to shaky Rockies defense, and left Colorado with the NL’s worst road record at 17-46.

Montgomery (8-6) allowed three runs, five hits and three walks in six innings, striking out a season-high eight.

Tanner Gordon (0-4) only got two outs and was charged with four runs, three hits and two walks.

For the Diamondbacks, Venezuelan Eugenio Suárez went 3-for-4 with one run scored and five RBIs. Cuban Lourdes Gurriel Jr. went 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Dominican Geraldo Perdomo went 0-for-3 with one RBI.
