High school football makes a big return to southeastern Massachusetts.

Teams from across the region east of 495 are preparing to take to the practice fields on Friday.

According to National Weather Service meteorologist Frank Nocera of the Boston/Norton office, it should be a perfect day to kick off the preseason for local area teams.

“Friday is looking favorable,” Nocera said. “Mornings should be dry, with temperatures in the mid-60s and low-70s in the afternoon. It’s like a normal summer day.”

“The weather should be dry and wet, as usual for this time of year in August, with winds around five miles per hour.”

Some teams will start in the morning, while others will have practices in the afternoon. The official start of the high school football season begins on September 6, with some teams starting as early as Thursday.

Nocera also noted that everyone attending the New England Patriots’ preseason football game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Thursday at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro will be able to enjoy pleasant weather. The temperature at kickoff will be 75 degrees and at the end of the game 73 degrees.
