The Yankees’ new star is also a prolific rapper

His given name is Jasrado Hermis Arrington Chisholm Jr., but the Yankees’ new infield star goes by Jazz.

Perhaps it’s no surprise, then, that he’s caught the music bug.

What’s surprising, as a new report from Fox Sports’ Deesha Thosar reveals, is that Chisholm has recorded some 200 songs, a catalog large enough to make many professional artists envious. Not only that, she had so far managed to keep it a secret from her teammates — at least in New York, if not in Miami, where she played from the time of her debut in 2020 until July.

Thosar writes:

How did Chisholm manage to have such a raucous introduction as a Yankees player — we’re talking about the first player in franchise history to hit seven home runs in his first 12 games — without any of his teammates having any idea that he rapped and produced, by his estimate, around 200 songs? Chisholm said he never told them, and it was never brought up.

A poll of the Yankees’ locker room revealed shocked faces and stunned silence.

While the revelation may come as a surprise, it fits perfectly with Chisholm’s reputation for turning to music to express herself beyond the baseball field.

Chisholm, a free spirit, has been outspoken in defending himself and his teammates for expressing themselves through celebrations on the field and in the dugout.

Chisholm has an All-Star nomination (2022) and a cover of The MLB The Show (2023) on his resume. At 26 years old, he has a .248 batting average, with a .311 on-base percentage and a .449 slugging percentage.

In his first 13 games as a Yankee, Chisholm has exceeded all expectations. He is hitting .296 (16-for-54) with seven homers, 11 RBIs and four stolen bases.

Though some questioned how well Chisholm would adjust to the transition from a young baseball team in a young baseball market (Miami) to the more corporate, beardless environment of the Bronx, the transition has been seamless.

Retired pitcher CC Sabathia, who spent 11 years with the Yankees and was part of three All-Star teams, and was part of the 2009 World Series-winning team, She recently took to social media. to praise Chisholm, saying he is “made for the Bronx.”

It’s unclear whether Chisholm will publicly display her talents for the first time now that she’s playing in baseball’s biggest market. Across town, New York Mets infielder Jose Iglesias has parlayed his baseball fame into a chart-topping single under the moniker “Candelita.”

By now, Chisholm’s baseball career has brought him enough fame.
