NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. – Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz is scheduled to speak at a fundraising reception in Newport Beach, Calif., on Tuesday.

Ticket prices range from $1,000 to $100,000 depending on the invitation.

Proceeds will go to the Harris Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee chartered by Harris for President, the Democratic National Committee and state Democratic parties in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

There was no immediate response to an email sent Sunday to the Harris-Walz campaign asking if the Minnesota governor had other events scheduled in Southern California on this trip.

“As Mayor of Newport Beach, a city with a 7-0 Republican City Council, I invite Governor Walz to spend time with our city leaders while reaching into the pockets of some of our residents,” Newport Beach Mayor Will O’Neill wrote on social media.

“We will show a city that did not defund the police, that embraces conservative economic values, that reduces debt and increases quality of life, that did not allow protesters to burn down local businesses, and that cares about human flourishing.

“If Governor Walz is as interested in learning about well-run city policy as he is in receiving political donations, my door will be open.”

Kamala Harris and Walz were in the San Francisco Bay Area on Sunday for a fundraiser that raised more than $12 million toward the conclusion of their swing through key states.

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and California Gov. Gavin Newsom attended the event at the Fairmont Hotel, where nearly 700 people had purchased tickets costing at least $3,300 and as much as $500,000.

“This is a good day to welcome Kamala Harris back home to California,” Pelosi said of the former U.S. senator, attorney general and district attorney for the state.

“It makes us all proud. It makes us all very happy. It makes us all very hopeful,” Pelosi said at the fundraiser.

President Joe Biden was scheduled to attend a fundraiser in Laguna Beach on July 26, but decided to drop his reelection bid, so the event was canceled. (With reporting from CNS)
