Illinois 2024 Master Showman Announced

Jaiden Mahler of Kendall County took first place in the 24He Annual Masters of Showmanship Competition at the Illinois State Fair.

The contest, held Friday, tests 4-H members’ skills in the world of exhibiting three species: beef, sheep and pork. Sixty members participated.

Mahler is the daughter of Chad and Natalie Mahler.

Olivia Shike of Champaign County, daughter of Dan and Jennifer Shike, was the overall reserve grand champion.

Aubrey Killey of Warren County, daughter of Kevin and DeNeene Killey, took third place.

This year, prizes worth nearly $8,000 were awarded, donated by sponsors.

The competition is open to 4-H members ages 14 to 18. 4-H members were judged on their ability to handle each animal, their knowledge of the species and animal husbandry, as well as their overall showing skills.

Three winners were named for each species and the scores from all three species were tallied to determine the top five overall winners.
