The Philadelphia Phillies should try to steal this star from the Dodgers in the offseason

The Philadelphia Phillies are focused on winning a championship this season. Right now, they seem to have a very legitimate chance to do so.

However, the front office is almost certainly already thinking about the offseason as well.

The Phillies don’t just want to win a World Series this season, they also want to keep their window open for the long haul. To do that, they’ll need to have quality offseasons one after another.

One potential need could be to get a bigger hitter for the outfield. They acquired Austin Hays before the MLB trade deadline, but could look for a bigger hitter during the offseason.

Whether via trade or free agency, there are quite a few options available.

If they choose to go the free agency route, one name that would make a lot of sense is Los Angeles Dodgers star Teoscar Hernandez.

Hernandez will be a highly sought-after free agent this offseason. He has put up big numbers throughout the 2024 season so far.

In 115 games played, Hernandez has hit .273/.337/.510, with 26 home runs and 76 RBIs. He can bring a lot of power to the lineup and also produces very consistently.

At 31, Hernandez still has a few more years left in him. He would be a very smart target for Philadelphia if they could land him on a three- to five-year deal.

Over the past four years, Hernandez has been a very productive hitter. If the Phillies were to add him to their lineup, he would provide even more power alongside Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner. He could be a very important piece in becoming an even more dangerous contender in 2025.

All that said, Hernandez will have a long list of teams interested in signing him. Philadelphia will have to get aggressive early in free agency if they want to land him.

The Phillies are expected to have an aggressive offseason. Management has made it very clear how much they want to compete and win championships.

Hernandez would be a piece that could help them achieve that goal if they manage to sign him in free agency. He is a player they should definitely target.
