Jac Caglianone hits his first professional home run in grand slam style

DAVENPORT, IA. (WCJB) -After setting Florida’s single-season home run record with 35 and the career record with 75 this year, it was only a matter of time before Jac Caglianone showed off his impressive power in the Minor Leagues.

He probably didn’t expect his first home run as a pro to come this way, though. Caglianone hit a grand slam off an infielder, Jose Acosta, in the eighth inning of High-A Quad Cities’ 13-2 win over Wisconsin at Modern Woodmen Park on Saturday night.

The 6-foot-4 slugger struggled early in the at-bat. He missed his first swing, fouled off a pair of pitches and left with a full count. But when he finally saw a pitch in the zone, Caglianone hit it at an estimated 109 mph toward the Mississippi River.

There’s a bit of irony in the fact that Caglianone, known for his prowess as a two-way player in college, hit his first home run as a pro off an infielder. The Royals plan to have him focus solely on hitting for the remainder of the season (after pitching 73⅔ innings with the Gators in 2024) before returning to his role as a two-way player next year.

After just four games with the River Bandits, Caglianone is confident his first “real” home run will come soon.
