Plane carrying Carolina Panthers skids off runway in North Carolina after returning from New England preseason loss

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA (WTVD) — The Carolina Panthers had a bumpy return to North Carolina after their preseason loss to the New England Patriots in Foxborough.

The plane carrying Panthers players and staff veered off the runway. The incident occurred early Friday morning at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, a league source confirmed to ABC affiliate WSOC.

Delta Airlines issued a statement to the station confirming that there were 188 passengers on the plane when the plane’s right main landing gear rolled off the taxiway.

No injuries were reported and passengers were taken to the terminal by bus, according to the airline’s spokesman. The airline did not specify whether the Panthers were among the 188 people on board.

The Panthers were returning from a preseason game on Thursday night against the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. They lost the game 17-3.
