MAGA hits out at Jenna Ellis over Trump settlement: ‘I lost all respect’

Donald Trump supporters are publicly attacking Jenna Ellis, after it was announced that the former Trump campaign lawyer had accepted a plea deal in the Arizona “fake voter” case.

The deal, which will see Ellis cooperate with prosecutors in exchange for having the charges against him dropped, was announced by Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes on August 5.

Ellis previously pleaded not guilty to nine felony counts against him. In the case, prosecutors charged Ellis and 17 others with conspiring to overturn the results of the 2020 Arizona election in favor of Trump.

“This settlement represents a significant step forward in our case,” Mayes’ statement read. “I thank Ms. Ellis for her cooperation with our investigation and prosecution. Her input is invaluable and will greatly assist the state in proving its case in court.”

Ellis later posted a statement, written by her attorneys, on her X account. “We are grateful that the Arizona Attorney General’s Office has completely dismissed the charge against Jenna Ellis, as she was not involved in the so-called ‘fake voter’ scheme. Jenna was originally told she was not a target and her cooperation is her continued willingness to tell the truth.”

Newsweek Magazine I reached out to Jenna Ellis via email for comment.

The post proved to be something of a talking point for pro-Trump social media users, who took the opportunity to harshly criticize Ellis online.

Trump supporter and self-proclaimed “American constitutionalist” @andreafreedom76 wrote on X: “Jenna Ellis has lost all respect of the people.”

Another pro-Trump account, @TexasRepublic 71, said: “Too bad you cried like you did and sold your soul.”

Raheem Kassam, a political consultant and editor at National Pulse who was an outspoken critic of Ellis in 2023 when she endorsed Ron DeSantis for president, also joined the Twitter storm. “Oh God, if only someone had noticed that Jenna Ellis was betraying the people,” he wrote.

A Memphis user named @TrumpisBack7 accused Jenna of “selling out” and turning against Trump to save her skin.

Another user wrote: “Jenna Ellis lost her mind in Arizona. What a big mouth.”

Some Democratic supporters also took the opportunity to join the furor on social media.

Podcaster Jack Hopkins, a Kamala Harris supporter with more than 260,000 followers, said: “Jenna, you were given the option of conviction… or cooperation. You chose the latter. It was purely out of self-preservation: bottom line… don’t act like you did something ‘heroic.’ The heroic thing would have been to not have been involved in this criminal nonsense in the first place.”

Another Democrat-supporting account, called @WavesofUSA, posted: “LOL. MAGAts are going NUCLEAR on Jenna Ellis after the announcement that she would turn on Trump in the Arizona fake elector case. They are imploding because Jenna Ellis refused to sacrifice herself for the cult leader.”
