Woman hit by Dallas police car on Elam Road is in critical condition

A woman who was struck by a police patrol car while crossing Elam Road on Monday night is in critical condition, according to police.

Around 7 p.m., police responded to a call of a pedestrian involved in a car crash in the 8700 block of Elam Road in Pleasant Grove, according to a police statement.

A preliminary investigation determined the pedestrian was in the middle of the road. She crossed in front of two cars making a left turn onto Cedarcliff Drive and entered the far left lane, where an officer was driving, the statement said.

The Dallas police cruiser was marked and was heading east on Elam Road to respond to a call, according to the statement. The car’s lights and sirens were not on, police said.

The police car struck the woman, according to the statement. The officer stopped and the woman was taken to a hospital. She is in critical condition, according to police. The officer was not injured.

The investigation is ongoing, the statement said.
