Travelers face delays and cancellations at Myrtle Beach International Airport ahead of Tropical Storm Debby

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Myrtle Beach International Airport reported some delays and cancellations Monday as Tropical Storm Debby moved through parts of Florida.

MYR released a statement on conditions and plans as the storm heads toward the Grand Strand.

WMBF News reporter Eric Richards has been monitoring conditions throughout Monday afternoon and spoke with travelers.

“I’m pretty nervous and I called the resort to see what their policies were and what we should do if the storm hit us while we were here,” Chad Robinson said.

Robinson and his family are visiting Myrtle Beach for the first time, after planning their vacation more than six months ago.

“The resort said their policy is that they will not close unless there is an evacuation order or if lightning strikes near the hotel,” Robinson said.

Francisco Gonzalez is traveling to southwest Florida with his wife and said their flight has been canceled.

“We’re stuck here trying to get another flight to Florida,” Gonzalez said.

At 6:30 pm, eight flights scheduled to arrive in MYR were cancelled.

“Well, hopefully I can make sure our house is ready and we’re ready,” Tim O’Neill said.

O’Neill arrived in Myrtle Beach on a flight from Albany, New York, and said his first experience with a major storm since moving to North Myrtle Beach was Hurricane Ian. He said he’s still not sure what to do about Debby.

“I don’t know. All there will be is flooding and wind. There’s not much I can do,” O’Neill said.

If you or someone you know is traveling anytime this week, you are strongly advised to check with your airline for updates on flight status.

MYR provides a flight tracker which can be found here.
