A not so warm front is coming tomorrow!

Believe it or not, Central Texas recorded another cooler than normal day on Thursday as the official high temperature at the Waco Airport topped out at 97°F, marking 15 straight days of cooler than normal highs. The streak is expected to come to an end today or tomorrow as potential triple-digit highs are set to return, but a weak cold front is set to push through this weekend and will bring the return of near or even cooler than average highs on Sunday and Monday. Bluer skies are set to return today as dust from the Sahara Desert has mostly moved into North Texas. You may notice a bit of haze, but the dust concentration will remain fairly low. Morning temperatures in the mid to late 70s will warm steadily with sunny skies in the low 90s and low triple digits. Fortunately, clear, sunny skies will cause the humidity to drop over the course of the day. It will still be hot and feel hot, but heat index values may only reach around 105° for many people and as high as 107° for some.

Our weekend cold front will change the weather a bit, but you may need to keep an eye on the thermometer to really notice the temperature change. Highs ahead of the front on Saturday are expected to climb to 100° or even a bit higher, with a heat index as high as 107°, but the late afternoon arrival of the cold front should bring some scattered showers and non-severe thunderstorms, especially from mid-afternoon Saturday through a few hours after sunset. The highest chance of rain, near 30%, will be west of the I-35 corridor, with a decreasing chance of rain the farther east of I-35 you live. The pop-up afternoon storms will likely be sub-severe, but could produce some gusty winds and locally heavy rain. Honestly, consider yourself lucky if a storm passes through your neighborhood!

Cold air from the weekend cold front won’t begin to move in until early Sunday morning. With the front passing through in the morning, we’ll likely see a completely dry day, but we’re keeping a 10% chance of rain in the forecast in case the front moves a little slower than expected. Here it is, the moment you’ve been waiting for! Highs near or slightly above 100°F on Saturday will drop to the low 90s on Sunday. The huge temperature drop (on the opposite side) won’t last long as temperatures will return to the 90s on Monday and triple-digit highs will return beginning Tuesday. Rain chances are out of the forecast for all of next week and the mid-August rain outlook is pretty low right now.
