Ohio State football defensive coordinator Jim Knowles on the 2024 season

Fall camp is in full swing for Ohio State football.

After taking the practice field for the first time ahead of the 2024 campaign on Thursday, the Buckeyes returned to action on Friday, 29 days before their Aug. 31 season opener against Akron.

Ohio State coach Ryan Day addressed the media on Thursday to give those in attendance a preview of what the Buckeyes will look like as a whole. After Ohio State’s second fall practice, it’s defensive coordinator Jim Knowles’ turn.

In 2023, Ohio State had the third-best defense in the country, with opposing offenses averaging 265.4 yards per game and 4.17 yards per play. The Buckeyes allowed 11.23 points per game, second-best in college football behind Michigan (10.4).

Ahead of the 2024 season, Ohio State added five-star defensive end Eddrick Houston and five-star cornerback Aaron Scott, along with former Alabama All-American safety Caleb Downs via the transfer portal.

Ohio State will open the 2024 season at 3:30 p.m. Aug. 31 against Akron on CBS.
