Florida Gators Fall Practice Report No. 2: Newcomer debuts

The Florida Gators continued their second fall workout on Thursday. Media was allowed to attend a brief portion of that workout.

The main findings are presented below.

The newcomer makes his debut

It appeared the Gators had finalized their 2024 roster before fall camp, but one late arrival made his practice debut less than an hour after announcing he had joined the roster.

JUCO defensive lineman Tavorise Brown (Palm Bay, Fla.), who committed to Florida as a preferred non-scholarship player on Thursday afternoon, was spotted working out with his new position group immediately following his announcement.

Prior to spending his freshman year at Hutchinson Community College (Ks), Brown (6-foot-7, 290 pounds) recorded 33 total tackles, five tackles for loss and eight sacks as a senior at Palm Bay (Fla.) Heritage.

Due to Florida’s scholarship cap this year, Brown joined the Gators as a preferred non-scholarship player, but he will have the opportunity to earn a scholarship next season when new updated scholarship counts for college programs go into effect.

Scholarship limits for FBS football programs increase from 85 to 105 beginning with the 2025-2026 sports season.

On Thursday, one of them removed his non-contact jersey to put on his regular practice uniform, but one more joined the injured group.

Smith III was in full activity on Thursday and participated in tackling drills with the rest of the defensive backs, while Westphal was seen in a non-contact jersey as he worked with the offensive line for the second straight day.

Meanwhile, interior defensive lineman Jamari Lyons was seen working out on a stationary bike at the indoor facility away from his position group.
