Sizzler, which was owned by Collins Foods, closed its doors after 35 years in 2020 citing COVID-19 as the reason for its demise.

“This has been an incredibly difficult decision and one we have not taken lightly, especially given the impact it will have on our dedicated Sizzler staff and customers in Australia,” Collins Foods chief executive Drew O’Malley said at the time.

“Dining trends and consumer preferences have evolved during this time, moving away from Sizzler’s casual restaurants in suburban locations.”

Sizzler, known for its unlimited cheese bread and salad bar, was once one of Australia’s most popular restaurant chains after opening in Brisbane’s Kedron in 1985.

In 2006, all Sizzler restaurants temporarily suspended their salad bar service after strange objects, thought to be rat poison, were found in the food at the Toowong restaurant.
