You may hear a sonic boom in southeast Michigan today — here’s why

Toledo, Ohio – People across southeast Michigan could hear a sonic boom Monday afternoon.

The 180th Fighter Wing will conduct a functional check flight between 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. Monday around Bowling Green and Toledo, Ohio.

“Residents in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan may hear a sonic boom once supersonic speeds are reached,” the 180th Fighter Wing posted on Facebook.

Although the plane will likely be checked at an altitude of more than 30,000 feet, it is still possible that the sonic boom will be heard.

These check flights are conducted after the plane undergoes heavy maintenance. It will be subjected to strenuous tests and maneuvers to ensure everything is working properly, the publication says.

If the aircraft passes the test, it will be able to return to operational rotation.

Your flight may be delayed or cancelled due to weather.
