NEW YORK CITY — Amtrak has canceled service between New York City and Boston for the remainder of Saturday, the rail service said in a news release.

The rail service first announced the temporary disruption shortly before 10 a.m.

The service disruption is due to a faulty circuit breaker that was causing power to go out on all tracks between Penn Station in New York and Union Station in New Haven, Connecticut.

Amtrak said affected ticket holders will be offered options to change their travel plans. The company will not charge additional fees to customers who wish to change their reservation during the modified schedule.

“Amtrak is communicating directly with affected customers about this service disruption and is offering them options to reschedule their travel plans. Amtrak apologizes for any inconvenience caused by the disruption. Our teams are working hard to correct the issues,” the company said.
