Warriors coach Steve Kerr sends well wishes to Klay Thompson after his move to the Mavericks

As Klay Thompson takes the next step in his career, the Bay Area farewells continue to pour in.

Steve Kerr was the latest Golden State star to send well wishes to the Mavericks’ new sharpshooter. As Team USA begins to prepare for the upcoming Paris Olympics, Kerr took some time to thank Thompson for his 13-year tenure with the Warriors.

“I just want to thank Klay Thompson for 13 incredible years, 10 of which I was around. What he did for the team, the organization, the Bay Area and me personally, the relationship we had,” Kerr told reporters Saturday. “All the incredible success, but more importantly, the fact that we’ve been through all of this together has been so meaningful and wonderful.”

Kerr joins Steph Curry and Draymond Green in paying emotional tribute to Thompson. After winning four NBA championships with the Warriors, Thompson moved to Dallas in the offseason in a sign-and-trade deal.

He reportedly agreed to a three-year, $50 million contract with the Mavericks. With Thompson in the fold, Dallas adds shooting and another veteran presence to a roster that just made it to the NBA Finals.

Kerr added that he hoped to keep Thompson with the Warriors for the foreseeable future, but understood the direction the 34-year-old guard is taking.

“We’re going to miss Klay. We wish him the best,” Kerr said. “These things rarely go your way, when you have to plan it, execute it and it all comes together. We were hoping that would happen, but it didn’t. We wish Klay the best, but we love him and we’ll miss him.”
