STANTON COUNTY, Neb. — The Stanton County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 32-year-old Houston man believed to be in the country illegally Friday afternoon.

Stanton County Sheriff Mike Unger said that around 3 a.m., deputies stopped a car heading south on Highway 15 about eight miles south of Pilger.

The driver, Delvin Eberado Velasquez-Romero, 32, did not have a driver’s license and had fictitious Texas stickers on his windows.

Unger said the driver spoke limited English and confirmed his identity with a fingerprint scanner.

After questioning Velasquez-Romero, officers discovered he was wanted on five felony charges in Benton County, Indiana.

He was jailed on a felony warrant and is awaiting extradition to Indiana.

Authorities believe Delvin Eberado Velásquez Romero is in the United States illegally.

“This is an example of the diligent work of a law enforcement officer patrolling in a remote area of the county, doing what he was hired and trained to do,” said Sheriff Mike Unger.
