The Indiana Department of Natural Resources posted an update on the water search on its Facebook page Saturday.

Authorities said there were 12 people on the boat around 2:30 p.m. Friday. A man went missing after getting off a boat to go swimming near Hammond, Indiana, authorities told ABC7.

When the swimmer began to have difficulties in the water, two others jumped in to help him.

“Due to the wind and waves, the three individuals and the boat became separated and began floating in the water,” Indiana Conservation Officer Alex Neel said.

Police said the third person who jumped was the only one wearing a life jacket. He was later rescued by the coast guard and will be OK.

ABC7 is told one missing man is from Elk Grove Village and the other is from Mount Prospect.

Police said foul play is not suspected and they do not believe alcohol was a factor; it was simply due to the dangerous water conditions. They are asking everyone to pay attention to forecasts before heading out to Lake Michigan.
