Wild boar bites Arizona woman, fights with her dogs, state wildlife officials say

A 68-year-old woman was bitten on the leg by a wild boar in Arizona while she was fighting with her dogs, state wildlife officials say.

The woman, who was bitten on the shin, was treated at a hospital and released after the attack, the Arizona Game and Fish Department said. published in X Tuesday.

The agency said the woman is from Pearce, an unincorporated community in southeastern Arizona, about 85 miles southeast of Tucson.

It was not immediately known what caused the animal to attack the dogs.

What is a wild boar?

The collared peccary is also known as the wild boar. Peccaries look like small pigs and range in color from brown to tan with a reddish dorsal stripe on the hairs on their back, according to the state agency.

Adults typically weigh between 35 and 50 pounds.

“Wild boars cannot distinguish between dogs and coyotes that attack them. If you see them while walking a dog, go in the opposite direction as soon as possible,” the state agency said.
