Truck crashes into classroom at Sydney school after colliding with 19 vehicles

A truck collided with at least 19 cars at a busy intersection in the Sydney suburb of Moorebank on Saturday afternoon before crashing into a school classroom, which was thankfully empty.

At least five people have been injured in a two-vehicle crash in Brisbane’s southwest. The collision took place at an intersection in Forest Lake last night. The group was taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Police are investigating whether speed was a factor in the crash.

Photos from the scene show the extent of the damage, with the front and rear of a black 4WD completely buried.

Emergency services rushed to the intersection of Nuwarra and Newbridge roads at around 1.15pm when police understood the truck had collided with 19 vehicles before crossing onto the pavement.

It then crashed through metal doors and into an empty classroom at St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School, where it eventually came to rest.

The truck driver was trapped in the cab for almost 40 minutes before Fire and Rescue NSW officers were able to free him.

They were later taken to Liverpool Hospital for treatment for what police believe are non-life-threatening injuries.

Two other people from the damaged cars had to be taken to hospital for minor injuries, while six more were examined by paramedics at the scene.

The truck will be towed away so it can undergo a mechanical inspection while the building is checked for structural damage.

Liverpool City Police Area Command Acting Inspector Shaun Colls said it was a miracle there were no more injuries.

“Considering the number of vehicles involved and the level of damage to all vehicles, I was expecting something much worse than minor injuries, it’s quite surprising,” he said.

“That includes the driver himself. It is a lucky day that no one was seriously injured.”

Anyone who has dashcam footage of the incident is urged to come forward and contact Liverpool Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
